About This Spot

Stepping into Barbecue Shack is like slipping into a quietly familiar neighborhood spot where time moves a little slower and the day’s rhythm is set by the welcoming chatter and the comforting sizzle of the kitchen. Nestled on Randolph Street in Thomasville, this unpretentious barbecue and breakfast joint exudes the kind of easygoing warmth that invites you to settle in and savor the moment, whether you’re dropping by for a quick bite or a leisurely meal with friends and family.

The atmosphere here carries a subtle hum of community—regulars exchanging greetings with the friendly staff, newcomers curious about local flavors, and that gentle buzz of casual conversation. It’s not a place of rush or flare but one where the genuine care behind each dish quietly speaks through the aroma of smoked meats and the fresh, buttery biscuits served throughout the day.

The menu feels like a heartfelt nod to Southern comfort, inviting you to explore layers of flavor through dishes that mix breakfast favorites with hearty barbecue classics. There’s a kind of joy in choosing between a tender pork tenderloin biscuit that pairs effortlessly with a cold sweet tea or diving into a slice of their sliced barbecue plate, topped by slaw and a side that might just steal the show—crispy fries or golden tater tots. It’s a balance between familiarity and discovery, where even the hot dogs and grilled cheese come with a homemade touch that grounds the experience firmly in everyday comfort.

Beyond the food, it’s the gentle, unassuming pace here that lingers—a place where you can catch a brief new taste like the local Cheerwine or settle into a quiet corner with a bowl of Brunswick stew during its seasonal peak. There’s an honest sincerity underlying the service and flavor, even if it doesn’t shout for attention. It’s the kind of spot that finds beauty in simplicity and in those small human moments shared over a plate.

⭐⭐⭐ (3/5) I recently visited Barbecue Shack and ordered their barbecue plates with fries and potatoes. While the food was decent, it didn't quite meet my expectations. The barbecue flavor was lacking, which was disappointing since I was hoping for something truly special. The service was also just okay; it didn't leave a lasting impression. I really wish I could recommend this place more, especially since I live in Thomasville. With a little more attention to the barbecue flavor, I believe they could elevate the dining experience. For now, I’d say it’s about 70% recommended.

Stopped in to try some NC BBQ. Not what I expected but not bad. I had never had red slaw, that was a shock.

Came in around 3pm and was between lunch and dinner so it was not busy and had great parking. Super friendly staff at the register and greetings. I'm not from around the area so had some conversation about options and even got a sample tasting of Cheerwine which I have not had before. Ended up with the sausage with all the toppings per their recommendation and then got a sliced barbecue plate with hush puppies, red slaw, and fries. Used the Hog Wash barbecue sauce and can definitely say that I will be a repeat customer whenever I am in the area! Great food and better than stopping by the larger chain fast food nearby. Also the bathrooms were really clean which was also very nice!

It's Brunswick stew season! I picked up a couple of quarts for dinner last night. It was delicious only reason for 4 stars was because of the price. It seemed a little steep but was well worth it.

This was my first visit, definitely not my last. The hot dog, fries, white coleslaw, and hush puppies were good. The only critique I have is that the macaroni was cooked properly just needed a little more salt, and my pork sauce was missing that vinegar spicy taste that I thought I was gonna have when I saw the drippings. Even what that said the food was good.

In my constant search for the perfect biscuit and in particular the perfect tenderloin biscuit this place may be #1 on both but their tenderloin biscuit is definitely king. They are not cheap but they are huge with a flour dusted immense tenderloin crusted up on the flattop. Oh my! Their other biscuits are good as well. Bacon is piled on and the bologna is thicker than my head. Place is crowded [especially the drive thru] but they pump them out quick. They serve breakfast until 1 PM and they are NO LONGER cash only.
